Rejuvenating Your Career

Rejuvenating Your Career

By: Tony Jacowski

The first instinct for anyone who starts to feel this way is to think about finding a new job that will suit their tastes better. Well, the fact is that finding a new job is not that easy. Let's take a list at some of the following facts about a job that you have been in for any amount of time.

-It's reliable. You may not feel like you can keep going day after day, week after week, but you can be happy with the fact that you do indeed have a job. There is income coming in for you, and if you are a person that is also responsible for a family then you can't really afford to take the chance that you will not earn as much in a different career.

-You know it! One sign of dissatisfaction is boredom, and boredom will usually come from knowing a job inside and out. It can be hard to remember, but there was a time in which you didn't know your job so well. Reflect on that, because if you do decide to switch careers you will probably find you have some of the same frustrations when it comes to learning the ropes as you did at your current job.

No doubt you have already thought of the above reasons, but are still unsatisfied in your job. If you've chosen to stay for the reasons we listed above, you don't need to deal with the awful feeling of dragging yourself to work every day. There are several things you can do to rejuvenate your career.

Change Your Thinking

First of all, it's important to change the mindset that you are in. You need to realize that everyone feels this way about their job, and yes, that includes movie starts. Pick up a magazine and read through it; you'll see the highest paid people in the world, the most recognized, and those that seem to have it easy complaining. Athletes and movie stars alike can find things to complain about, so it's no wonder the rest of us can. The key is to switch your thinking so that you realize all jobs have a negative side, and it's your job to focus on the positive.

Something else you may want to try to do to reset your feelings about your job is try on a new persona at the office. No doubt if you are feeling negative about your job or career, those around you are as well. It can be hard to break free of the mold and be the one who starts being positive, but you don't have to do it through work. Try to talk only about the positive things in your life with your co-workers and you might find that the change in atmosphere makes it seem as though it's a whole new place of business.

Finally, try to stop doing the same old things day after day. Even if you do a really good job, routine means that you go unnoticed. If it's a promotion or other recognition that you are after to rejuvenate your career, then you will need to start standing out. Being a positive influence is one way of doing so, as is achieving great results through a work ethic that is different than those around you.
